Gravis Robotics turns heavy construction machines into intelligent, autonomous robots. Our unique combination of learning-based automation and augmented remote control lets one operator safely conduct a fleet of machines from anywhere in the world. Our team has over a decade of academic experience honing the cutting edge of large-scale robotics, and is rapidly growing to bring that expertise into a multi-billion dollar industry.
Our Rooftop Autonomous Control Kit (RACK) combines sensors, compute, communication and networking modules into a manufacturer-agnostic solution that can be applied to a variety of construction machines, regardless of type or age.
We're looking for our first dedicated IT hire, someone who can build the IT infrastructure from the ground up, while ensuring reliable and effective day-to-day IT operations.
You'll be the single point of ownership for IT at Gravis, covering end-user support, employee workplace and test-site infrastructure, Google workspace and SaaS administration. You will also coordinate corporate cloud and high-performance computing infrastructure where it sits within the IT environment.
As this role will primarily support business and corporate operations, it will sit within the Operations team. Given the complexity of Gravis’s technical environment, the role will also work closely with the Platform team to ensure corporate IT and engineering infrastructure are well coordinated. In addition, the role will interface with our Gravis cybersecurity experts to ensure compliance and security of our IT systems.
As Gravis continues to grow, the IT function will have scope to expand with it. Depending on the IT roadmap and business needs, the team may grow over time to support the company’s increasing scale and complexity.
Build Gravis's IT infrastructure from the ground up, by creating a prioritized IT roadmap, standards and documentation, and plan for growth as we scale operations around the world.
Administer in-office (network, Wi-Fi, firewalls, servers, phones, printers), coordinating with engineering on anything they own directly.
Own backup, recovery and business-continuity arrangements, and support security, audit and due-diligence requirements.
Manage the complete hardware lifecycle, procuring, configuring, repairing and retiring laptops and equipment, and be the primary point of contact for employee IT support.
Create user accounts and provision IT access for new hires, laptop, Google Workspace, and the tools they need, so day one just works, and own offboarding when people leave.
Administer Google Workspace and other SaaS platforms, managing accounts, access, MFA and endpoint security.
Manage our internal VPN and cloud resources (AWS), access, security, cost and usage.
Own IT vendor relationships, contracts and the IT budget, licenses, renewals and cost-saving opportunities.
5+ years in IT, with proven experience as an IT System Engineer, IT Administrator, IT Generalist or similar hybrid support/ infrastructure role, including hands-on Linux administration.
Practical experience administering SaaS/identity platforms (e.g. Google Workspace, GitHub, Jira) and managing user access, permissions and MFA.
Experience managing hardware procurement and lifecycle, network/VPN infrastructure (e.g. Tailscale or similar), and vendor contracts or budgets.
Comfort owning both the strategic roadmap and the day-to-day support ticket, working independently as the sole IT owner in the company.
Excellent communication skills and a methodical, documentation-first approach — you like things reproducible, not tribal knowledge.
Nice to have:
Experience with robotics or field/ test-site IT environments.
Experience with Ansible or other configuration-management tooling.
Familiarity with information security management systems, related standards, or relevant EU legislation (e.g. ISO 27001, GDPR).
Practical experience balancing velocity & security in a startup environment.
You care about building things that work reliably in a fast-moving and dynamic environment.
You want to help build the foundational IT backbone for a company bringing autonomous robotics into a multi-billion dollar industry.
You can efficiently manage real-time on-call incidents while maintaining steady progress on major deliverables.
You'd rather fix the root cause than patch around it, even when the quick workaround is tempting.
You value a collaborative culture built on thoughtful design, creative problem-solving, mutual respect and pragmatism.
