Tethys Robotics develops innovative robotic solutions for subsea inspection & investigation operations in challenging conditions. We serve clients such as governmental organizations, large asset operators and industrial service providers operating in high-demand and mission-critical environments.
As an ETH Zürich spin-off, we are a fast-growing pioneer in underwater robotics, rooted in Switzerland. Backed by strong funding and entering an exciting phase of international growth, we are now scaling our engineering and production capabilities to build and deliver multiple robotic systems in parallel.
We are looking for a hands-on and driven Electrical Engineer to take ownership of key electrical systems within our underwater robots and help us bring our technology from low-volume builds towards robust, repeatable production.
You will work across the complete electrical stack of our underwater robotic systems: From PCB and system design to embedded firmware, integration, testing and production.
As we scale, your role will combine new product development with industrialization and continuous improvement of our existing systems.
Your Contribution
- Drive the development and improvement of the electrical architecture of our underwater robots
- Design and develop PCBs, electrical subsystems, power distribution and interfaces
- Develop and maintain low-level embedded firmware in C/C++
- Implement drivers and interfaces for sensors, actuators and other robotic subsystems
- Design wiring harnesses and integrate electrical components together with the mechanical team
- Perform PCB bring-up, calibration, testing and debugging
- Integrate and troubleshoot electrical subsystems at complete robot level
- Improve existing designs for reliability, manufacturability, testability and serviceability
- Develop production and end-of-line test procedures as we scale the number of systems we build
- Support component selection, sourcing and lifecycle management
- Prepare electrical subsystems and technical documentation for certification
- Contribute to the development of future generations of Tethys robotic platforms
This is a highly hands-on position: you should enjoy moving between PCB design, firmware development, the electronics lab, robot assembly and real-world testing.
- BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or a related field
- Practical technical background such as Electronics Technician / Automation Technician EFZ is a strong advantage
- Proven hands-on experience in PCB design using Altium, KiCad, or comparable tools
- Experience with PCB bring-up, testing, debugging and electrical system integration
- Programming experience in C/C++
- Experience working with microcontrollers, embedded systems and power electronics
- Familiarity with interfaces such as CAN, UART, SPI, I²C or Ethernet
- Ability to independently take ownership of technical problems from initial design to tested solution
- Pragmatic and solution-oriented mindset, with an understanding that robust and manufacturable solutions matter more than overengineering
- Structured and quality-focused way of working, particularly as products transition from prototypes to repeatable production
- Comfortable working across electrical, mechanical, software and production disciplines
- Fluent in professional English, both written and spoken
- Joy and ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup team and motivation to work hands-on with real robotic systems
Bonus points if you bring:
- Experience with STM32 microcontrollers
- Low-level driver development
- CE certification and product compliance know-how
- Experience with robotics, maritime systems or other highly integrated electromechanical products
- A key engineering role in one of Europe’s most ambitious underwater robotics startups
- Significant ownership over core systems within our robotic platform
- The opportunity to shape both our current products and future generations
- A direct role in scaling a sophisticated robotic product from individual builds towards repeatable multi-unit production
- A dynamic, high-performance team with a strong builder mentality and flat hierarchies
- Real ownership, fast decision-making and the opportunity to grow your role as the company scales
- A modern robotics development and production environment in the Zurich area, close to both the city and the lake
