The
System Integration & Test Engineer for GNSS is responsible for verifying u-blox positioning products at system level, and for building and maintaining the test infrastructure that makes this verification repeatable, automated and scalable. The role covers the full path from feature requirement to executed test result: understanding how new positioning and navigation functionality is specified, determining how it can be verified in a realistic system context, and ensuring the necessary environments, tooling and automation are in place to do so.
The role addresses positioning and navigation algorithms across a range of use cases, standard precision, high precision, integrity and precise timing, and validates them not in isolation but as integrated into complete hardware and firmware systems. It interfaces closely with the engineering and signal processing teams to capture test needs, and with the test hardware and infrastructure, product verification and platform evolution teams to deliver high-quality positioning firmware products to our customers.
This role sits within the System Integration team, and requires working as part of a multicultural, friendly and highly collaborative group distributed across Switzerland and Finland. Strong analytical skills are essential: the role identifies issues at system level, isolates them across hardware, firmware and algorithm boundaries, and works with colleagues to drive them to resolution. As a team player, the successful candidate handles multiple parallel requests and organizes daily work according to priorities agreed with colleagues. Understand new positioning and navigation feature requirements and determine how they can be verified at system level.
Your Responsibilities
- Define, implement and document test cases for GNSS algorithms, signal processing and end-to-end system behavior.
- Design, develop and maintain automated test frameworks, scripts and tooling; extend them as product capabilities evolve.
- Integrate and maintain test environments, reference hardware, signal simulators, remote and lab-based setups and keep them aligned with product configurations under test.
- Build and maintain continuous integration pipelines for automated regression execution and monitor their health.
- Execute and review tests for verification of requirements and specifications.
- Report on accuracy, integrity and stability of automated test results; identify defects, bugs and non-compliances, and track them to closure.
- Work with algorithm and firmware developers to analyze requirements, reproduce problems and support root-cause analysis across the hardware/firmware/algorithm stack.
- Attend stand-up and strategy meetings of development teams as required, to understand features in planning and anticipate integration needs.
- Develop your area of expertise and support technical decisions within that scope.
- Create and maintain documentation for developed solutions, test environments and tooling.
Secondary Tasks
- Report to line manager and sub-project manager on activities and progress.
- Assist other team members on the job and share knowledge on tooling and test methodology.
- Work with other teams to specify and set up new test environments.
- Contribute to daily lab operations and maintenance.
- Proactively expand knowledge of software test methodologies, automation practices and GNSS technology.
Your Skills and Experience
- Several years of relevant experience as a system integration, test or software engineer in an embedded product environment.
- MSc in Software or Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or equivalent experience.
- Strong scripting and automation skills in Python; working knowledge of C/C++, and familiarity with Perl, Matlab or similar tools.
- Demonstrated experience designing or substantially extending automated test frameworks.
- Familiar with GNSS technology and embedded software development.
- Experience with continuous integration tooling (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI) and with Git-based version control workflows.
- Experience with lab equipment: GNSS signal simulators, oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers.
- Knowledge of RF signal concepts, noise figure and measurement of key RF parameters.
- Experience with serial and embedded communication interfaces (UART, USB, SPI, I²C); exposure to Ethernet-based interfaces is an advantage.
- Basic understanding of schematics and test boards.
- Experience with requirements management tools (e.g. SystemWeaver, Jama, Jira, IBM DOORS or similar).
- Working knowledge of Linux environments.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Fluent English, written and spoken.
- Pro-active attitude and a strong desire to collaborate.
