Overview:
Bio-Rad is looking for a hands-on EHS Specialist to be the primary EHS resource at our Cressier manufacturing site (~300 employees), operating in a regulated Medical Devices environment. You will work with autonomy on the ground while being functionally supported by the EMEA EHS Manager.
This is a site-facing role. You will be visible on the floor, trusted by operations, and capable of owning the full EHS scope — not managing from a desk.
Key Responsibilities:
Occupational Health & Safety:
-
Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and workplace inspections across production, QC, logistics, and engineering areas
-
Investigate and report incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; drive root cause analysis and corrective actions to closure
-
Manage the occupational health programme in coordination with SUVA and relevant cantonal authorities
Environmental Compliance:
-
Ensure site compliance with Swiss environmental regulations and corporate environmental standards
-
Monitor and report environmental KPIs; manage waste streams, chemical storage, and spill prevention
Emergency Response:
-
Maintain and update the site emergency response plan
-
Coordinate fire drills, first aid organisation, and emergency response teams
-
Interface with local authorities (fire brigade, cantonal inspectorates)
Chemical & Hazardous Substances Management:
-
Maintain chemical inventory and safety data sheet (SDS) library
-
Ensure proper labelling, storage, and handling of hazardous materials; manage substitution plans where applicable
Regulatory Reporting & EHS Management System:
-
Manage SUVA and OFEV reporting obligations
-
Maintain EHS documentation, legal register, and permit tracking
-
Support internal and external audits (ISO 14001 / 45001 or equivalent)
Training & Culture:
-
Design and deliver EHS inductions, toolbox talks, and role-specific safety training
-
Act as a visible EHS reference point for operators, supervisors, and managers
-
Drive a proactive safety culture — moving the site from compliance to ownership
What You’ll Bring:
Experience & Background:
-
5–10 years of EHS experience, with a significant part in a manufacturing environment (Life Sciences, Chemical, Medical Devices, or similar regulated industry strongly preferred)
-
Demonstrated ability to operate as the primary EHS contact on site
Education:
-
Degree in EHS, Engineering, Natural Sciences, or equivalent
-
Relevant EHS certification (e.g. CFST/ASST, NEBOSH, or Swiss equivalent) required or in progress
Technical Skills:
-
Solid working knowledge of Swiss EHS legislation (OPA, LTr, LPE and associated ordinances)
-
Familiarity with SUVA processes, cantonal authority interfaces, and Swiss permit frameworks
-
Experience with EHS management systems (ISO 14001 / 45001 or equivalent); audit experience is a plus
Languages:
-
French: fluent (working language on site)
-
English: fluent (corporate and EMEA reporting)
-
German: strong asset — direct access to German-language regulations and supplier/authority contacts
