What You Will Do
GHG Accountants support the successful execution of client engagements, emissions inventory development, and daily process work for SCB's Sustainability Advisory Desk. This combination of technical and client-facing work allows GHG Accountants to own a section of the emissions accounting process from data collection through to final reporting.
Engagements vary and can include building corporate GHG inventories, preparing client reports, analysing activity data, and conducting research into evolving reporting standards.
Responsibilities may include:
GHG Inventory & Data Management
- Collecting, cleaning, and validating Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions data from client sources
- Calculating GHG emissions using recognised methodologies and emissions factor databases (e.g. DEFRA, EPA, IPCC)
- Building and maintaining emissions inventories in line with the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard
- Identifying data gaps and recommending appropriate estimation methodologies
Reporting & Client Deliverables
- Preparing client-ready GHG inventory reports, disclosures, and supporting documentation
- Supporting clients with CDP, SBTi, CSRD, and other regulatory or voluntary disclosures
- Producing clear graphical and narrative representations of emissions data for non-technical stakeholders
- Contributing to client deliverables on decarbonisation pathways and target-setting
Advisory & Client Support
- Supporting clients in setting science-based targets and Net Zero roadmaps
- Advising clients on emissions reduction levers and market-based solutions (e.g. carbon credits, RECs, PPAs)
- Assisting with client calls and workshops to explain methodology, findings, and recommendations
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
- Supporting third-party verification and assurance processes for client GHG inventories
- Staying current on evolving reporting frameworks, regulations, and best practices
- Assisting with internal audits and quality control processes for accounting methodologies
Who We Look For
We are looking for an experienced GHG accounting professional to strengthen our environmental markets, corporate sustainability, and climate advisory offering.
Candidates must have:
- A degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus
- A minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in GHG accounting.
- Demonstrated expertise applying the GHG Protocol to build and maintain Scope 1, 2, and 3 inventories
- Working knowledge of ISO 14064-1/14064-3 and experience preparing inventories for third-party verification or assurance
- Practical experience supporting client disclosures under frameworks such as CDP, SBTi, CSRD/ESRS
- Strong technology skills – MS Office (including advanced Excel, e.g. pivot tables, complex formulas, macros); AI tools and experience with GHG accounting or carbon management software.
- Design skills for presentations using tools such as PowerPoint and Canva
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and competencies:
- A self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage client engagements with minimal oversight
- Advanced quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve data quality issues independently
- High attention to detail and comfort working with large, imperfect, or incomplete datasets across multiple business units and geographies
- Proven ability to prioritise and manage multiple concurrent client engagements against competing deadlines
- Deep, current knowledge of GHG accounting methodologies, emissions factor sources, corporate social responsibility, sustainability, and climate change regulation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings and defend methodology directly to senior client stakeholders
- Fluency in English and French is required.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and great team player, with the ability to mentor junior staff on GHG accounting fundamentals
- Prior experience managing GHG accounting or sustainability reporting engagements end-to-end, ideally within a consultancy or client-facing environment, is required
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
