About the Role
We're looking for a Backend Developer to help build and scale the core services powering EstateLab's search. You'll work on the APIs and data pipelines that turn raw property data into fast, useful results and real-time updates.
This role is open to both experienced engineers and strong junior candidates, including ETH undergrads in CS, Engineering, Math, or Physics, who have solid Python fundamentals. We value a fast learning curve and a drive to improve more than ticking every box below.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs using Python and FastAPI
- Model and query data in PostgreSQL, writing clean and efficient SQL
- Implement real-time features using Server-Sent Events (SSE)
- Write maintainable, well-tested code and participate in code reviews.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Must-haves:
- Strong proficiency in Python
- Experience building APIs with FastAPI (or a similar framework)
- Comfortable working with relational databases like PostgreSQL and can write efficient SQL queries
- Exposure to tools like Git and Docker
- Solid understanding of REST API design principles
- Ability to write clean, readable, testable code
- Curiosity and eagerness to learn. We're happy to mentor the right person
DETAILS:
- Workload: (ca. 80%+ , 34-42 hours per week), flexible around exam periods
- Location: Zurich, hybrid
- Compensation: CHF 28-40 per hour, depending on experience
- Contract: freelance on an hourly basis, with the option to move to an employment contract once we incorporate
- Start: as soon as possible
- Working language: English (German is nice to have, but not required)
